The Assistant Director will lead in the planning, coordination, and implementation of student and scholarly involvement with the University.
Position Focus
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Services, the Assistant Director is responsible for ensuring compliance with all operational procedures and regulatory policies, while working collaboratively with staff to ensure objectives of the Student Services department at Yale’s School of Forestry & Environmental Studies are achieved. The Assistant Director will lead in the planning, coordination, and implementation of student and scholarly involvement with the University. The Assistant Director will serve on Yale, F&ES and University-wide committees as needed.
*Principal Responsibilities
  1. Develop, implement and manage a variety of programs that provides support to, develop community among and ensure the best possible experience for the F&ES students as needed in line with the goals and priorities of F&ES.
  2. In conjunction with the Assistant Dean, design and implement the execution of the first-year orientation program and the Commencement activities.  Create appropriate schedules and determine content and program materials.
  3. Serve as the F&ES Title IX Coordinator as a member of the University Title IX Committee that includes creating and presenting an orientation workshop as well as workshops during the academic year.
  4. Development, oversight, and execution of the F&ES Commencement budget.
  5. Identify areas of improvement and gather data through student surveys to provide recommendation to enhance future programs to enhance the students’ F&ES experience.
  6. Serve as contributor to ongoing student life design process including student academic standards, student community standards process, and the student handbook.
  7. Participates fully in and contributes to office projects, including developmental meetings.
  8. Manage the production of the New Student Reference Guide.
  9. Manage the Peer Mentor Program.  Select, train and mentor returning students to assist the incoming class of students.
*Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years’ experience in higher education administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
