General Purpose
Provide high-level coordination and support for the School of Forestry & Environmental Studies fundraising and alumni services efforts assisting the Director and Associate Director (“Directors”).   In addition, this position will support an active communications effort between the school and its various external constituencies, including alumni, donors, and prospects.
Essential Duties of Position
  1. Compose a wide variety of written materials including detailed individual prospect briefings, acknowledgements, stewardship letters and gift proposals, plus alumni and donor communications for alumni, press releases, alumni updates, etc.
  2. Promote increased alumni/ae participation and involvement in F&ES, through active engagement with class agents, class secretaries and support of the Alumni Board, as appropriate.
    • Develop strategies, participation and revenue goals for F&ES Annual Fund; assist in the implementation of annual fund strategies, coordinating with the Central Development Office, and the F&ES class agents.
    • Work with current students to promote future giving through programs such as class gifts, SIG’s, phonathon, etc.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of alumni events, including annual reunion and regional events.
  3. Support the Directors in a range of capacities as needed, including prospect strategy design and implementation, report generation and manipulation of information systems.
  4. In consultation with Directors, coordinate publicity and outreach efforts on behalf of the office.
  5. Provide research on individuals and/or corporations and foundation using office files, databases, and Internet search engines and resources.
  6. Provide pre-award support for corporation and foundation proposals, including budget preparation, and completing pre-proposal administrative forms and correspondence for business office review and approval.
  7. Create summaries of the prospect pool with respect to giving, status, affiliation, and other focus points as needed.
  8. Manage interaction between F&ES Development Office and University Research department to optimize top prospect development interests.
  9. Interact with alums and major gifts donors to provide cultivation and stewardship as appropriate.
  10. In concert with Directors, assist in the coordination of events including reunion, Leadership Council, Alumni donor receptions, etc.
Education and Experience
  1. Bachelor’s Degree with three to five years of administrative or professional writing experience or an equivalent combination of education/experience in fundraising, alumni services, communications and/or marketing.
  2. Preferred:
    • Interest in the environment.
    • Experience in a university setting or with development and alumni work.
    • Knowledge of and proficiency in annual campaign fundraising strategies and techniques.
    • Familiarity with Yale.
Skills and Abilities
  1. Well developed oral and written communication, editing and analytical skills.
  2. Ability/willingness to speak publicly occasionally to a variety of audiences.
  3. Ability to interact with top level donors and Yale administrators, as well as students and alumni volunteers.
  4. Professionalism, maturity, good judgment, and ability to work with confidential material. 
  5. Knowledge of and proficiency in Microsoft Office, social media and ability to adapt to University wide databases.  Experience with website searches and public information sources. 
  6. Demonstrated organizational and research abilities with strong attention to detail. 
  7. Ability to prioritize and handle diverse, simultaneous tasks while attending to details and follow-through. Ability to initiate and see tasks through with minimal supervision.
  8. Ability to work well in and foster a team environment.
