REMADE Program Manager

Job summary

This successful candidate will be the finance manager of the School’s REMADE program, working in support of the grants’ Principal Investigators, and overseeing the financial management of the grants awarded within the REMADE membership agreement.  This position will report to the Associate Director of Finance & Administration and may be responsible for other F&ES financial duties as assigned.  The School is part of a consortium participating in the Reducing Embodied-Energy and Decreasing Emissions (REMADE) Institute, based at the Rochester Institute of Technology and supported by a U.S. Department of Energy grant, which will explore strategies to reduce the costs of technologies needed to reuse, recycle, and remanufacture materials such as metals, polymers, fibers, and electronic waste.  Under the School’s REMADE program, several large grants will be proposed and administered over the next five years.
 
This is a 3-year fixed duration part-time position, estimated at 25 hours per week and is eligible for benefits.  The position has the possibility of extension beyond 3-years dependent on funding.
 

Principal responsibilities

  1. The program manager will develop and manage complex budgets and financial reports for the Program ensuring the financial accuracy of reports and that reporting deadlines are met.  Conduct monthly budgetary reviews of accounts in collaboration with PI; identify budget variances; identify and resolve issues.  In conjunction with the PI, develop and execute plans for meeting complex cost share obligations in compliance with federal, sponsor, and Yale regulations.
  2. Develop the administrative infrastructure of the Program.  Manage administrative functions of the program including supervision of students, coordinating IT, HR, Research Office, and facilities needs.  
  3. Create and maintain complex spreadsheets of salaries, fringe, cost-sharing, and other expenses, as well as future obligations and anticipated expenses.
  4. Review finance reports for accuracy.  Advise PI and F&ES Business Office of inaccuracies and ensure corrections are made as necessary. 
  5. Maintain a thorough knowledge of Department of Energy and Yale regulations, particularly regarding proper allocation of funding, and advise accordingly. Develop and maintain systems for adhering to regulations.
  6. Administers the allocation of researchers’ time, and resources, to several grants simultaneously in an effective manner.
  7. Ensure Program compliance with sponsor and Yale guidelines by drafting, reviewing, and editing materials such as project summaries, annual reports, special reports, manuscripts and presentations.
  8. Develops and sustains strong relationships with relevant members of the consortium as well as members of the Yale community. 
  9. Other business office financial duties as assigned.
 
 

Education and Training

Bachelor's Degree in a related field and three years of experience or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.

  2. Strong analytical, financial management, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with well-developed ability to manage budgets. Ability to manage multiple projects under time constraints and be highly productive with limited supervision.
  3. Ability to take initiative, problem solve and exercise independent judgment.
  4. Demonstrated success in detailed work requiring accuracy and high level of productivity with disciplined follow-up skills.
  5. Ability to juggle multiple tasks, prioritize and meet demanding deadlines; demonstrated flexibility in handling assignments.
  6. Excellent and wide ranging computer skills on a PC including word processing and printing, spreadsheets, web applications.
 

Preferred:   

  • Research administration experience;
  • Experience developing budgets;
  • Workday experience.
