BECOME A LANDS INTERN
Are you interested in land conservation? Do you want to help protect the natural and working landscapes of Vermont and New England, while also getting experience that can lead to jobs with groups like The Nature Conservancy, The Green Mountain Club, and state and federal agencies? Do you like working outside, in the woods, out in nature? If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, consider the Land Stewardship (LANDS) Program, an innovative summer College Conservation Crew being offered the summer of 2011 through the University of Vermont and Student Conservation Association.
LANDS interns work to support land-use agencies in their land conservation efforts. There are many small land trusts, towns, and agencies that need help. For example, land trusts are one of the fastest growing sectors of land conservation (1700+ nationally) and collectively they have conserved an area 16X the size of Yellowstone. LANDS interns assist in the stewardship of these lands in a variety of ways: conducting annual monitoring visits, creating natural resource inventories, GIS mapping, writing management plans, and more. This is done from the team to the individual level.
For the previous LANDS teams made a difference for these organizations, and it could be your opportunity to make a difference in 2012. If you are eager to work outside in beautiful places and want to advance your skills in land conservation, apply for LANDS!
