Greetings,

The Hastings Center is currently accepting applications for the position of Research Assistant. Please pass on the following job announcement to students, ideally students interested in bioethics, who have recently obtained their bachelor’s degree or will complete their undergraduate work by July 2012. Many thanks!

The Hastings Center seeks applicants for the two-year position of Research Assistant, beginning in July 2012.

The Hastings Center’s two Research Assistants provide research support to our projects and professional staff. They are intellectually engaged with all aspects of our work, have opportunities to meet and work with leaders in the field, and in the course of their employment develop a deep familiarity with a wide range of bioethics issues. The successful candidate will be trained by and work alongside the other Research Assistant, who has been in the job for one year. His or her responsibilities will include journal screening, literature and web-based searches, document retrieval, bibliographic and citation services, preparation of detailed summaries of research project meetings, and other project support. In addition to the formal duties of the position, Hastings Center Research Assistants are encouraged to submit abstracts to academic conferences, contribute to Bioethics Forum, and seek publication of their scholarly work.

Qualifications and key competencies include: a bachelor’s degree; excellent oral and written communication skills; familiarity with word-processing applications and citation management software as well as online bibliographic and document retrieval tools; flexibility in managing multiple ongoing tasks; and a willingness to work creatively and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment. Some experience in bioethics is desirable, but not required. The position is for recent undergraduates only. Graduate, post-graduate, or advanced/professional degree holders will not be considered. Candidates must also be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
