New Partnership Will Connect
Journalists with Climate Researchers
The Yale Program on Climate Change Communication and the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting have announced a new Campus Consortium Partnership that will connect journalists reporting on climate change with leading researchers and students studying climate change communication and journalism.
The partnership will bring leading environmental journalists to the Yale campus to give public presentations and lead seminars for Yale faculty and students. It will also support a competitive fellowship program, which will give students an opportunity to work directly with Pulitzer journalists as part of a training program in Washington, D.C.
“Climate change is one of the most important stories of the 21st century,” said Anthony Leiserowitz, Director of the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication. “Yet it is also a multi-dimensional story, including science, politics, culture, economics, and society. Reporting this story well requires a sophisticated understanding of these complexities. We are pleased to partner with the Pulitzer Center to help nurture quality reporting on the issue.”

“Yale Climate Connections,” the Yale program’s online news service and national radio broadcast, will play a central role in the new partnership. Editor Bud Ward, a veteran environmental reporter and co-founder of the Society of Environmental Journalists, said “Pulitzer is world-renowned as a center of journalism excellence. We look forward to working together to develop news content and train the current and next generations of climate change reporters.”
The partnership's first event will be a visit by Eli Kintisch, an award-winning correspondent for Science Magazine on Dec. 1 at Yale.
The new partnership follows a several-year initiative between Yale and the Pulitzer Center that explored the evolving relationship between religion and the environment, including an International Conference on Ecological Environment recently held in Beijing, China.
The Pulitzer Center is a non-profit journalism organization based in Washington, D.C., with the mission of promoting in-depth engagement with global affairs through its support of international coverage of underreported issues across all media platforms and an innovative program of outreach and education.
The Yale Program on Climate Change Communication is based at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, the oldest institution of higher learning devoted to conservation and natural resource management in the United States. It conducts research on public climate change knowledge, attitudes, policy preferences, and behavior at the global, national, and local scales and publishes Yale Climate Connections, an online news service and national radio broadcast.
